Students may be permitted to complete a class by Independent Study only if they are in their senior year of study and the class is needed to complete graduation requirements. A Request for Independent Study form must be initiated by the faculty member who will teach the class and approved by the chair of the department and the dean of the school/college in which the class is offered. The department chair will ensure that the content and requirements of the class completed by independent study are equivalent to those in the class as regularly offered. A student may not complete a class by independent study in a semester when the class is being offered regularly. A faculty member may only teach one class per semester as an independent study.
